What This Guy Keeps In His Bedroom Would Give Most People Nightmares

By  |

Most 20-year-old boys like sports or playing video games, but not Kyle Kandilian. He is a student from Dearborn, Michigan, that is obsessed with roaches. (And no, he doesn”t just smoke doobies.) He loves cockroaches.

His room is filled with more than 200,000 roaches. It”s not because his room is dirty, either. He breeds and sells the roaches for profit.

Ever since he was introduced to the Madagascar hissing roach at the University of Detroit Mercy, he has been completely obsessed with the creepy creatures.

Kyle”s roach farm of a bedroom is filled with 130 different varieties of cockroach, although he laments this is a small percentage of the 4,000 different species.

Most guys at 20 years of age are into video games, but Kyle Kandilian of Dearborn, Michigan, has a unique hobby. He doesn”t like video games or sports. He loves roaches.

(And no, he”s not smoking doobies.) He literally hangs out with cockroaches, something we all try to avoid as much as possible.

But when Kyle was in high school, he set his eyes on a pair of Madagascar hissing roaches and asked his mom if he could keep one as a pet. Today, his bedroom is filled with 200,000 roaches. He isn”t surrounded by roaches because it”s dirty, he farms the bugs and sells them to likeminded enthusiasts.

He also conducts studies on the usually unpopular pest and even received a scholarship for one award winning project. He graduated with honors in 2014 and now devotes his life full time to his farm.

Kyle has turned his eccentric hobby into a popular business. In addition to touring his bugs at shows, he also sells them to other insect fans around the world. Some can go for as much as $150-$200 a pop.
