What People Do At This Annual Watermelon Festival Isn’t What You’d Expect

Watermelon is synonymous with summertime. People consume it in a variety of ways during the summer, in order to make the heat a bit more bearable. However, would you ever think to put watermelon on your feet? I would think not. Yet in this Australian town, that”s exactly what they do, among other things during their annual Melon Festival.
This weekend, the Chinchilla Melon Festival had over 15,000 attendees to celebrate everything melon related.
The festival cuts up and gives away melons to its attendees when the festival rolls around each year.
Festival attendees are even treated to the completely ridiculous sport of water(melon) skiing!
While many would think that this is a giant waste of delicious fruit, it is actually not too wasteful. The people donating the melons for the festival only use overripe, unsellable watermelons. It”s also for a good cause, and to the delight of everyone who shows up.
This biennial festival is one of the major tourist draws for the town of Chinchilla, as well as one of the best ways to indulge in your guilty watermelon desires.
