What One Man Found Inside An Abandoned Medical Clinic Is Breathtaking History

Shane Thoms is a Tokyo-based photographer who is responsible for some of the most breathtaking photography of abandoned places as of late. Recently, he posted a series of photos showing his exploration of an old, abandoned Japanese medical clinic.
Thoms estimates that the clinic may have opened prior to World War 2, or possibly even World War 1, and closed sometime in the “40s or “50s. These photos perfectly strike the balance between historically interesting and just plain spooky. Just check them out below.
The abandoned clinic was located far enough from the main road that Thoms was able to simply walk in the front door of the building.
This is something he says he”s never gotten to do before in his line of work.
Inside was a waiting area with lots of old Japanese books and patient cards scattered around.
Near the waiting room was an examination room full of old medical treasures from an era long gone.
There were even a few bottles of old medicine still left on the shelves.
This drawer contained a few unbroken glass syringes.
Next stop was the old operating room. Notice the small, rusty operating table in the middle of the room.
Thoms says it”s unclear what kind of surgery this clinic specialized in when it was operational. He suspects that doctors may have conducted some sort of biological research here.
