A cancer diagnosis is always a surprise. When ABC anchor Amy Robachs was asked to go get a mammogram for a TV segment, she was hesitant. She”d been putting off the procedure herself because of her busy schedule. She finally agreed… and it”s a good thing she did, because it saved a life. Her own.
Amy Robach didn”t expect to receive life-changing news when she got a mammogram for a news segments.
She simply hoped to demystify the procedure, to encourage others to get regular check ups.
She was a busy mother and anchor, so getting around to having a mammogram wasn”t a priority for her. But now, she is certainly glad she did.
It was revealed that Amy has breast cancer and will undergo a double mastectomy on Thursday.
After the on-air mammogram, she was called back into the office by doctors. She didn”t think anything of it. I was alone that afternoon, never thinking to bring anyone with me, never thinking that day would be life-altering.
My husband was on a business trip and my parents live across the country, but that night everyone flew into New York City and we started gearing up for a fight.
Amy was lucky that the cancer was caught so early and she has the option for such aggressive treatment.
She hoped the segment would save someone”s life. She just didn”t realize that life would be hers.
Cancer is serious. Never put off mammograms or self-examinations.
