This guy was going through his grandparents” old photos after his grandmother passed away last week. It was then that he made an interesting, yet tragic, photographic discovery.

His grandfather worked for NASA as a contractor and he was able to see just about every space shuttle launch. Well, there was one launch in 1986 that no one will ever forget. Called the Challenger, with 7 people on board, the space shuttle exploded 73 seconds into launch. In these amazing photos, his grandfather photographed it all. The photos speak for themselves:

The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred on January 28, 1986, when Space Shuttle Challenger (mission STS-51-L) broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. The spacecraft disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of central Florida at 11:38 EST
