15 Of The Craziest, Most Epic, And Most Terrifying Bridges In The World

They say you should overcome your fears, but if you’re afraid of heights, these bridges might not be the best places to start the long process of conquering your terrifying nightmares of gravity getting the best of you. Then again, all of these walkways, roads, and even roots are incredibly epic once you get past your anxiety. Just have a look…

1. The Triftbrucke, Switzerland

The bridge is suspended more than 300 feet in the air over a rocky gorge (yay!) and is more than 550 feet long.

2. Kakum National Park’s Canopy Walk, Ghana

The entire pathway is 1,150 feet long and links seven treetops in the forest.

3. Living Bridges, India

While not necessarily terrifying to traverse, these walkways, grown by weaving banyan roots together, take decades to construct.

I take back what I said about walking on this — nope.

4. Gateshead Millennium Bridge, England

While I’m still unclear gravity-wise how you get across this bridge, it’s pretty darn cool.

5. Rolling Bridge, England

A word to the wise: don’t get caught on this bridge midday on Fridays, when it rolls up on itself.

6. Slauerhoffbrug, Netherlands

When a ship needs to travel beneath this bridge, a mechanical arm (not unlike a transformer) hoists a piece of the road sky-high.

Because this one requires a second perspective for the full effect.

7. Saikai Rainbow Bridge, Taiwan

Whooaaa.

8. Haohan Qiao Bridge, China

Translated to mean “brave man’s bridge,” the glass pass is over 1,000 feet long and is suspended around 600 feet in the air.

9. Langkawi Sky Bridge, Malaysia

What’s that? You don’t like being suspended 2,100 feet above sea level on the side of a mountain? Yeah, you probably shouldn’t visit this then.

10. Bridge in the Karakorams over the Hunza River, Pakistan

All of the nope.

11. Kazurabashi and the vine bridges of the Iya Valley, Japan

Made with a mix of wood and vines, these look terrifying from here…but keep scrolling.

12. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

The highest suspension bridge in America, this architectural wonder hangs nearly 1,000 feet off the Arkansas River’s bed.

13. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Ireland

This short rope bridge is most impressive since it’s been up for more than 350 years. It was built by salmon fishermen long ago.

14. Capilano Suspension Bridge, Canada

Built in the 1800s, this suspension bridge is 450 feet long and hangs 230 feet off the river.

15. Titlis Cliff Walk, Switzerland

Not for the faint of heart, this cableway is more than 3,000 feet above sea level in the Swiss Alps.
