The Recipe That Will Give You A Heart Attack…And It’s So Worth It

By  |

As Americans, we”ve gotten a bit of a reputation. We were once considered the world”s fattest country (and are still in the running annually), we have a penchant for all things that involve bacon, and the leading cause of death in our country is heart disease. Some people would consider this stereotype to be a bad thing. Others seem to embrace it.

One of the people who embraces our label as people prone to heart problems created a recipe that will surely harden those arteries. When you see it, you”ll know that it”s glorious and totally worth the trouble.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Bacon Mac and Cheese Quesadilla.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Bacon Mac and Cheese Quesadilla.

This recipe calls for two pounds of bacon, a half pound of elbow macaroni, eight ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, one cup of half and half, two tablespoons of unsalted butter, one and a half teaspoons of Dijon mustard, a half tablespoon of salt, a half teaspoon of black pepper, and a quarter teaspoon of hot sauce.

Directions:

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 425F

2. Line two rimmed baking sheets with aluminum foil. Make a bacon weave on each baking sheet. Cut the corners to make the bacon weaves circular. Set the pieces aside and bake the weaves for about 15 minutes, or until they are crisp.

3. Bring a pot of heavily salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain.

4. Return pot to medium-high heat. Add the pieces of bacon you cut from the weaves. Cook until crispy for about five minutes. Break up large pieces with a wooden spoon. Reduce heat to low, add drained pasta and remaining ingredients. Stir until cheese is melted and combined.

5. Transfer bacon weaves to a wire rack or paper towels and let cool for five minutes. Place one weave on a cutting board. Top it with mac and cheese. Cover with the other weave. Cut into six pieces.

6. Enjoy!
